02 — Why silk
Cotton catches. Silk slides.
Cotton is spun from short cut fibres. Silk is one continuous filament. Everything below follows from that.

Hair slides instead of catching
Cotton yarn is spun from short cut fibres, so at the scale of a hair cuticle its surface is a field of loose ends. A single filament has none of them.

No pillow creases
Cotton grips a cheek and folds it. Skin slides across silk and does not hold the fold. You can check this one on the first morning.

Your night cream stays put
The gaps between cotton's short fibres wick liquid along them. A continuous filament has much less of that structure, so less of what you put on your face ends up on the pillow.

Silk pulls heat off skin faster than cotton, which is why it feels cold the second you touch it. That is contact, not climate: over a whole night it is the warmer of the two.

What the numbers actually mean
Every listing quotes them. Almost none says what they measure.
6A grade
A grade for the raw filament, not the finished case. 6A is the top of the scale: long, uniform, unbroken strands. It is why the surface does not pill where your face sits.
19 momme
Momme is weight, silk's equivalent of thread count. 19 is where real mulberry silk starts, and it is the weight most silk bedding is actually made in. Heavier exists; by 25 the fabric reads stiff rather than fluid.
Silk on both faces
Both faces are the same mulberry silk. Plenty of cases at this price are silk on top and polyester underneath, which you notice the first time you turn the pillow over.
Woven in China
Sericulture is farming silkworms, and it has been overwhelmingly Chinese for about five thousand years. The best mulberry silk comes out of Zhejiang and Jiangsu. We import it, hold the stock in Toronto, and ship from here.

A folded internal flap instead of a zip. No teeth to catch hair, no hard edge under your ear, and nothing to break before the fabric does.
OEKO-TEX Standard 100
Every component of the case, the fabric, the thread and the label, has been tested against a list of over a thousand substances restricted for skin contact, and passed. Certificate 21.HCN.67919, issued by Hohenstein HTTI. You can verify that number yourself on oeko-tex.com's label check, and you should: unverifiable STANDARD 100 claims are common.

Before you ask.
What size is it?+
Three sizes, each cut for the pillow it names. Standard is 51 × 66 cm (20" × 26"), Queen is 51 × 76 cm (20" × 30"), King is 51 × 91 cm (20" × 36"). Pick yours in the buy box; stock is per size and per colour.
What does 19 momme actually mean?+
Momme is to silk what thread count is to cotton: the weight of the fabric. 19 is the entry point for real mulberry silk and the weight most silk bedding uses. 22 is a little denser and a little more hard-wearing. 19 has a lighter, more fluid hand, and it is the same fibre.
Will it actually stop my hair breaking?+
It will reduce the friction your hair meets overnight, which is a real and measurable difference in the fabric. Silk is a continuous filament with no cut ends to catch on. Cotton is not. What we will not do is quote you a percentage. There is a "43% less breakage" figure every silk brand cites, and when you follow the citations they lead to other brands' blog posts rather than to any paper you can open. So: the mechanism is real, the number going around is not verifiable, and we would rather tell you that than repeat it.
Does silk really keep my skincare on my face?+
Partly, and less than you have been told. Silk is not hydrophobic. Its standard moisture regain is about 11% against cotton's 8.5%, so it actually takes up slightly more moisture from the air. The real difference is liquid wicking: the gaps between cotton's short fibres act as capillaries that draw liquid along them, and a smooth continuous filament has much less of that. So a night cream does stay put better. It is a genuine difference and a modest one.
Is it a cooling pillowcase?+
It feels cold the second you lie down, because silk conducts heat away from skin faster than cotton. But silk fibre is roughly a third hollow, which makes it an insulator, so across a whole night it is generally the warmer of the two. Buy it for the surface, not the temperature.
Is it silk on both sides?+
Yes. Both faces are mulberry silk. A lot of cases at this price are silk on one side and polyester on the other, and you can feel which side you got at 3am.
How do I wash it?+
Cold machine wash on delicate in a mesh bag, or by hand. Hang to dry. Cool iron on the reverse only if you must.
Where is it made?+
China, woven in the mulberry silk region, which is where essentially all real mulberry silk comes from and has for around five thousand years. We import it, hold the stock in Toronto, and ship to you from here, so there is nothing for you to pay on delivery. Any silk pillowcase presented as being made somewhere else is either not telling you the truth or charging you a premium for no material difference.
